Physical Play, Foul Play and Violence in Football

Over the last twenty years there has been a tenfold increase in cautions in professional soccer in England (Peiser, 1996). The reasons for this dramatic increase are still undetermined. As a consequence, a series of research projects on player violence has been initiated at Liverpool John Moores University.
