ABSTRACT

Sociology had developed into a method, and as such it could be applied by all other social sciences. Parents and teachers are merely the representatives of the group, and they pass on to the child the group's ideas of good and evil. At first, besides the 'collective representations', Durkheim stressed 'social morphology' as an indispensable branch of sociology dealing with the 'substratum' of these representations. Durkheim's great influence was due to some extent to the fact that he provided the Third Republic in France with a non-clerical morality. Durkheim's lectures on the sociological function of education were later issued by Marcel Mauss under the title Education et sociologie, and education morale. After the death of Durkheim, Marcel Mauss became the leader of the group. Following in Durkheim's footsteps he demonstrated that the classifications of logic reflect the structure of the group.
