ABSTRACT
The real progress in economic theory started with the surrender of this Parmenidean prejudice. It started when Adam Smith made it clear that in a voluntary exchange, as a rule both parties are gainers and nobody is the loser. This anti-Parmenidean discovery is still, I believe, the most important lesson we can learn from economics.
