ABSTRACT

In recent years the cross-cultural use of objective personality assessment instruments has been increasing substantially (Poortinga, Coetsier, Meuris, Miller, Samsonowitz, Seisdedos & Schlegel, 1982). The adaptation of personality measures that were developed on people in one culture for use with individuals in a different cultural context has been receiving widespread attention, not only for the purpose of cross-cultural personality research, but for the practical goal of providing useful clinical instruments for clinicians in the target culture.
