BURNOUT AND INSTITUTIONAL/AGENCY CENTERS
Attention is increasingly being focused on the burnout phenomenon. Popular literature describing case studies and numerous clinical research studies attests to its prevalence in mental health and social service organizations, industrial plants and the business community. This paper examines the prevalence of burnout in Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center, which serves over 3,500 patients from the surrounding communities. The results of the study with which I was involved indicate that the staff was experiencing an early stage of burnout.
