ABSTRACT

Shute also notes the prevalence of uncooperativeness in depressed elders. One frequent problem is the first and most important step of getting them into the office for evaluation and treatment. Shute presents a case of a 78 year old man, who refused to come in for psychotherapy, but agreed to meet the psychologist for breakfast at a delicatessen. This provided the opportunity for some behavior and social assessment. Continued breakfast meetings provided an environment for successful cognitive psychotherapy.
