ABSTRACT

Wood focuses on non-compliance in a case of unipolar depression in a 70 year old woman. The key to compliance was to remove both the stigma about taking mood altering drugs and guilt about the disorder. Tactics included educating the patient about the appropriateness of the medication and positive side effects, in addition to getting the family’s support. Also helpful was structured daily activity schedules which gave her a feeling of small victories in mastering the environment.
