ABSTRACT

One of the primary goals of this Conference was to evaluate the need to pursue specialty status for clinical child psychology. Even though there are ad vantages as well as disadvantages in obtaining such status, one of the major implications of achieving it would be the credentialing and licensing aspects. Just as the major specialty areas recognized by APA (clinical, counseling, school, industrial/organiza tional psychology) are defined by training guide lines, they also require special considerations for certification, licensure, and accreditation of pro grams offering such training. Should clinical child psychology ever be considered a specialty area, alterations in the conceptualization of the present structure of specialties in psychology would be re quired.
