ABSTRACT
Enormous changes have taken place in schools as a result of the introduction of a centralized National Curriculum in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. What is taught and how it is presented to students have had to be completely revised in light of the statutory Programmes of Study and Attainment Targets. Teachers no longer have the freedom about what is taught, but must exercise their professional judgment and skills about how to teach the National Curriculum.
