ABSTRACT

The chasseurs alpins has always been one of the crack infantry regiments of the French army. During the 1914–18 war, the Germans named them The Blue Devils. The father of Monsieur Bonneau (proprietor of the Diable Bleu) was a Diable Bleu during the first World War and, as Bonneau Fils followed in the footsteps of Bonneau Père as restaurateur, he decided to name his bistro, half way up the Montmartre hill, “Au Diable Bleu”, in memory of his soldier/chef father.
