ABSTRACT

Dawn of Delhi became the voice of Muslim India under Mr Altaf Husain editorship and the guidance of Quaid-e-Azam. Dawn deeply regrets to announce the death of its former editor; Mr Altaf Husain, a close lieutenant of the Quaid-e-Izam. Death silenced forever the voice that had roared and thundered for thirty-seven years – sometimes from backstage, sometimes from the front-line – always fighting for freedom and unity and, for the solidarity of Pakistan. The journalists of the country will honor him as a redoubtable pioneer and the country will remember Altaf Husain as a pillar of the Pakistan Movement. Altaf Husain had the reputation of being a kingmaker in Pakistan, with governments being made and unmade on the basis of his writings. In 1945 he was the obvious choice of the Quaid-e-Azam as editor of the All-India Muslim League’s official mouthpiece just started from the imperial capital.
