ABSTRACT
Meanwhile, the working party, composed of Ambassadors Ussama El Baz, Nabil El Araby, Director of the Department for Legal Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, Abdel Raouf Al Ridi, Director of the Department of Planning, and Ahmed Maher, completed the project on the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The project was based on the idea suggested by President Sadat in an interview with the New York Times. It centred around bringing the West Bank under the administration of Jordan – not as part of Jordan as was the case before 1967 – and the restoration of Egyptian administration to the Gaza Strip (as had been the case prior to 1967) after Israeli withdrawal from both the Bank and the Strip.
