ABSTRACT

On 31 December 1977, the US Ambassador, Herman Eilts, called on me and presented me with a New Year gift: Israel’s proposals for the agenda of the meetings of the Political Committee. It had been agreed that the Committee should convene in Jerusalem in mid-January. The Israeli proposals consisted of the following points:

The situation of the Israeli settlements east of the Arish and Ras Muhammad line (the settlements Israel established in Sinai after its occupation in 1967).

The principles of the peace treaty on “Judea and Samaria” and the Gaza Strip on the basis of the autonomy project (submitted by Begin in Ismailia).

The points to be included in the Peace Treaty.
