ABSTRACT

In Mexico, factors such as the external debt and the decrease in funding for universities are identified as synergistic in the building of the university-industry relationship. At the beginning of the 1990’s, the pressures from the private and governmental sectors were to build, to strengthen and to increase the incipient and scattered cooperation existing almost until the end of the 1980’s. The purpose of this chapter is to provide some background on financing for higher education, for scientific and technological activities at higher education institutions and for their link to the industrial sector.
