ABSTRACT

This chapter talksabout Russian philosopher K. N. Leontyev and V. V. Rozanov. It mainly focuses on the biography of K. N. Leontyev. Konstantin Nikolayevich Leontyev (1831-1891) was born into the family of a landowner in the village of Kudinovo. Leontyev's historiosophical views took shape quite late and, what is more important, were not fundamental to his intellectual searchings. The fact that Leontyev was trained in biology was of immense importance for the genesis of his historiosophical views. The idea of a 'triune process', when it took final form in his consciousness, was a simple transfer of his views as a biologist to historical being. The dialectic of Leontyev's ideas culminates in an assertion of the primacy of a religio-mystical conception of man and history. Students of Leontyev's ideas often mistakenly regard his historiosophical theories, especially the doctrine of the 'triune process', as central and basic. Leontyev's doctrine of love is very important for an understanding of his ethical views.
