ABSTRACT
You no doubt have some conception of what philos. is—otherwise you wouldn’t be here—but it’s quite a different thing saying what you mean by doing philos. And it is a matter of some importance to try to get clear as to what one is trying to do if one tries to do philos. And it’s a matter of extreme difficulty to give a precise def. of philos.: I have to confess I’m very vague; but I will try to be as definite as I can. It’s very hard, & I shall very likely be wrong. But I think there are some things worth saying.
