ABSTRACT
Over the two centuries of European settlement, the meteorological networks have developed to meet various needs. The current rainfall network (Figure 15.2) serves both water resources and drought manage ment, although the lack of data from the sparsely populated and arid interior is clearly evident. The data from the systematic observations have been recorded and collected, and new analyses of data in the archives continue to provide information for sustainable management of land and water resources.
