Physical effects and healing

In a tiny minority of cases there may be cuts, bruises and/or bleeding somewhere on the child’s body — particularly around the vagina, penis, anus, and/or mouth (Heger et al, 2002). More commonly, there will be little or no immediate physical evidence of abuse but the health effects may begin to be apparent much later.
