By the end of this chapter you should:
Understand what critical thinkers mean by the term ‘claim’.
Be able to identify different types of claim from a wide variety of contexts; most importantly, predictions, hypotheses, statements of principle, definitions, causal explanations, recommendations, allegations and value judgements.
Have developed a basic understanding of how each type of claim can be assessed.
