ABSTRACT

Spanish adjectives agree in gender and number with the nouns they go with. The form you see in the dictionary is usually the masculine singular. To make the feminine form, you need to note the following:

1 Adjectives ending in –o change to –a chinoÆ china

2 Those ending in –e or –u do not change estadounidenseÆ estadounidense

3 Most adjectives ending in a consonant add –a español Æ española

Adjectives (including nationalities) that have an accent on the last syllable lose the accent in the feminine form: japonésÆ japonesa inglés Æ inglesa

A Many names of countries are similar in English and Spanish. Can you match the English with the Spanish?
