ABSTRACT
Chart Datum is the datum of the chart below which the depths are charted. It is also the same plane as the tidal datum, so that the tidal height when added to the charted depth gives the true depth of water. By international agreement, Chart Datum is defined as a level so low that the tide will not frequently fall below it. In the United Kingdom, this level is normally approximately the level of lowest astronomical tide (see below).
