ABSTRACT

… We now command that for the duration of the war all exemptions from military service made by the existing cantonal constitution shall be removed by the following measures. All those between the ages of 17 and 24 who were formerly exempt can either volunteer for a mounted or foot rifle battalion or for the artillery. However, those who have not so volunteered within eight days following the publication of this order shall no longer have such a choice and will be placed in whatever branch of the army which the military authorities deem appropriate. [Then follow exceptions listed on grounds of criminal conviction, sole support of family or government service.]
