ABSTRACT

This book has presented both my own definitions of languagelearner strategies as well as those of my colleagues in the field. What I learned from the survey that I took of world experts on the topic was

they do not necessarily agree on the terminology. Perhaps this is part and

parcel of what academics are all about – constantly striving to improve on

the concepts that we hold about the phenomena in our environment. The

questions that I would pose are:

1. To what extent have terminological refinements improved our

understanding as to just what constitutes good language learning?
