ABSTRACT
In an astonishingly brief period, China has risen to become an economicpowerhouse. Its dominant position in the global marketplace and rapidlyexpanding influence in Latin America, Africa and Asia constitute a major shift in the world order that will shape the twenty-first century. The Chinese can take pride in all they have accomplished, and the Beijing Olympics of 2008 fittingly celebrated truly historic achievements.
