ABSTRACT

The case study is one of the most appropriate methods of data collection for a researcher who is working alone on a project with a limited amount of time and resources. The purpose of the case study is to gather a great deal of information about the case. Qualitative research has been defined as any kind of research that produces findings not arrived at by means of statistical procedures or other means of quantification. A case study can be either: an instrumental case study, or an intrinsic case study. Triangulation involves the replication of the study. Grounded theory is useful for research projects where there is little existing theory or research in the area. The study of a critical incident is a widely used form of case study method recognised as an effective exploratory and investigative tool. A critical incident approach cannot be used to make: an empirical generalisation, but it can be used to make a theoretical generalisation.
