ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the description of editorial production, and explains why a reasonable understanding of the underlying technologies for print and web enables to prepare work successfully for cross-platform media projects. It covers information that will allow people to liaise with production professionals, achieve the best possible results for print and web. The three main types of printing used for media products are web, sheet-fed offset lithography, which are wet ink processes and digital printing. New technologies and search engines have been developed which analyse web users' browser history, with the aim that people receive targeted advertising content based on their previous page viewing. An understanding of traditional printing processes as well as current web production systems will help us to learn new methodologies and skills, as most production developments evolve from past and current media. A good knowledge of production technologies and processes has been an element in the successful careers of many people in the media.
