ABSTRACT

The panorama of play that has unfurled for the read-

er within the pages of this book touches upon many

areas of professional and academic investigation. These

will be ripe for research activities (particularly practi-

tioner-led action research) well beyond the career life-

times of our first generation of readers. For example, in

an increasingly multi-cultural global society, the socio-

cultural approach to children’s play activities described

by Olusoga in Chapter 2 will become standard practice

in all democratic societies, necessitating a body of

knowledgeable, reflective practitioners in this area.
