The curriculum contextualised: secure knowledge and understanding of the subject and curriculum

The curriculum is deeply influenced by the society we inhabit, the ideology of the powerful and by the way it is interpreted and presented by those responsible for its delivery. This chapter provides an overview of the current education agenda in relation to curriculum reform and explores the policy, ideology and practice that prevail. A number of government policies are discussed and the values that underpin their conception are explored.
