ABSTRACT
The Foreign Secretary said it was now known that the Egyptian Government had entered into a contract for the purchase of arms from the Soviet bloc. There were also indications that the Russians were making overtures for the supply of arms to Saudi Arabia, Syria and possibly other Arab countries. The implications of these developments were serious. It seemed likely that with the situation in the Far East stabilised and a situation of stalemate in Europe, the Russians were turning their attention to the Middle East. . . .
