ABSTRACT
In this chapter we review research and practice in responding to writing and in writing assessment. In recent years, these areas have received much more attention than they had previously, both with respect to research and to practical implementation. At the same time, however, the issues surrounding responses to writing and writing assessment are still discussed more in terms of the questions raised and the concerns to be addressed than in terms of clear answers to difficult and important issues.
