Scope for intentions

This paper is about the contexts for writing in school, and looks particularly at unassessed journals written, in part, for the teacher. It is based on work I did in Western Australia in 1978, though it takes some of its direction from some discoveries we made in 1976 when I was directing the British Schools Council Project, Writing across the Curriculum. Neither of these projects was a research study though both combined a practical brief with certain elements of research.
