ABSTRACT

While he was in Khurasan during the reigns o f Geikhatu and Baidu, Prince Ghazan had come under the influence o f Nawruz, a turbulent M ongol amir whose family held considerable local power there. He was the son o f Arghun Aqa, an Oirat Mongol who had been one o f the most im portant early M ongol administrators in Persia. Nawruz had long since been converted to Islam, and did his best to persuade Ghazan o f the merits o f such a course o f action.
