Date and publication. The play was staged c. February 1681. In March 1681 it was performed at Oxford (see ‘Epilogue Spoken to the King’) and a prior production at Drury Lane seems likely. Charles Saunders’s Tamerlane the Great. A Tragedy was published by Bentley and Magnes in 1681 (T C May). It has a prefatory poem b y j. Bankes and D .’s Epilogue.
