ABSTRACT
The triumph of the humanist culture of the Renaissance in the Age of Leo x and Clement vii and the extension of humanist culture toward the geographical confines of the Italian peninsula coincided chronologically with what, for want of a better term, may be called a religious revival — specifically, a demanding search on the part of an increasingly large number of persons for a more intense and more meaningful relationship with the supernatural.
