ABSTRACT

In Chapter 10, we discuss group activity in France at some length. We begin by offering several definitions and exploring the various types of group activity. We describe in some detail the main economic interests. We investigate the mechanisms by which groups exert pressure and study the relations between groups, the state and the European Union. In a final section, we examine alternative explanations for understanding group activity, arguing that the French case can be fitted easily neither into the traditional pluralist nor corporatist models of state-group relations.
