ABSTRACT

There are many books which examine the state and state sovereignty, and many devoted to the theme of nationalism. Books on European integration are even more numerous, while new books on globalisation seem to appear every week. Europe, the State and Globalisation attempts the perhaps foolhardy task of combining all of these issues in a single text. The rationale for this is that it is surely vital to have an overview of how these processes interrelate. It is hoped that this book provokes readers to further study. Indeed the book asks many questions and by no means provides full or complete answers. It aims instead to provide essential foundations as well as stimulating and useful arguments about the relationship between the state, European integration and globalisation.
