ABSTRACT

We have seen that there is a set of models which provide the basis for urban and regional analysis and which herald major advances in our understanding of complex spatial systems. The models can function separately, or they can be linked into a comprehensive model. The emphasis so far has been on the theoretical development of these models. In this section, we offer a brief account of the experience of using the models —mainly through reference to recent literature — as a preliminary for a review of the ongoing research agenda. It will be argued that there are tremendous opportunities for the future, and these are pursued in the rest of the chapter.
