With this ‘edict’ the architect, Le Corbusier introduced the city of Chandigarh, the planned capital of Punjab that came to rep-resent India’s commitment to modernity [Doc. 12, pp. 145-6]. Although Nehru’s vision for Chandigarh was to create a monument to Indian nationalism, the fact that Nehru reached out to the best architects in the world, demonstrated both his nationalist and internationalist perspective.
