ABSTRACT
The first episode in which the ahis made a clear appearance took place shortly after the disaster of Kosedag. Rinds of Ak§ehir and Abgurum, northwest of Konya, were then made use of by some of the magnates in the entourage of Kay Khusraw II to make a criminal attack on others; the rinds of Konya were sent by the vezir Shams al-Dln Isfahan! to search the victims’ houses, and at the same time to forestall other acts of this kind. Soon, however, when the vezir was accused to the Mongols of complicity in the crime, they aided in his arrest. In this case they can be seen as participating in the factional power struggle, but this was not normal.
