ABSTRACT
This chapter looks at aspects of construction industry welfare legislation. In doing so it provides an insight into the following Regulations:
The Construction (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1996 (CHSWR).
The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR).
The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (Amendment) Regulations 1999 (COSHH).
The Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 (PPE).
More specifically, this chapter presents:The basis, structure and outline of the CHSW Regulations.
The duties under RIDDOR to report, record and investigate accidents.
The duties imposed upon employers under the COSHH Regulations and an outline definition of 'hazardous substances'.
A definition of personal protective equipment and an introduction to the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations.
