ABSTRACT
Bahia receives its first significant import of slaves delivered directly from Africa for distribution to the sugar plantations of the Pernambuco region; over the next 25 years an estimated 10,000 slaves are introduced into Brazil; in Spanish America there are 15,000 slaves and over the next 25 years 25,000 slaves will be imported into this area (including Central America and the Caribbean).
