ABSTRACT
Environmental monitoring and auditing in EIA, sometimes also referred to as EIA follow-up, has a number of purposes. Some of these are scientific while others are management related (Wilson, 1998). They include ensuring that the terms and conditions of project approval are met, verifying environmental compliance and performance, and indicating where the adjustment of mitigation and management plans may be necessary (Sadler, 1996 p. 127).
