As the previous chapters have exemplified, uneven processes of globalisation have intensified in recent years, with many developing countries experiencing the ramifications of actions taken in other parts of the globe (Johnston, et ai., 1996; Daniels and Lever, 1996). The accompanying decline in the power of the nation state, which is a direct outcome of increasing global articulation and neo-liberal policies, raises important questions concerning the ability of Third World governments to control their own development.
