The future of the city in the developing world: the policy agenda

Massive urban growth and development are ongoing, inevitable processes in the developing world. Whilst the population of major cities may have been expanding at a lower rate since the 1980s, especially in Latin America and the Middle East, it is certain that urban areas will continue to grow massively, especially cities of intermediate and secondary size. In addition, cities in South Asia and Africa are still growing at very rapid rates, and as exemplified in Chapter 1, there is little ground for complacency.
