ABSTRACT
In the years that followed Theodore Roosevelt's election in 1904, the spirit of progressive reform became a dominant element in American public life. A number of causes came together in 1905 and 1906 to inspire advocates of change with the possibility of redirecting society. Theodore Roosevelt played a large role in this process, but progressivism extended well beyond Washington and the White House.
