Solving the world food problem?

The falling levels of self-sufficiency in food in Developing Countries are generally explicable with reference to three factors (Ilbery and Bowler, 1996):

• Population growth has outpaced the rate of increase in food production in many Developing Countries. In conjunction with associated land degradation, this has necessitated imports to maintain per capita food consumption levels.
