ABSTRACT
A subject directory is a catalogue of Internet resources spanning a range of subjects arranged by topic. During the first few years of the Web, when search engines, robots and wanderers were things of the future, subject directories were an essential guide to Internet resources. Although today experienced Internet users will invariably use a search engine in preference, subject directories are still a very useful resource for obtaining an overview of what is available in particular subject areas.
