ABSTRACT

Chapter 9 was devoted to the optimal way of constructing a domestic property portfolio. In Chapter 10, the benefits of including property in portfolios of financial assets were examined. It was shown that property can play a substantial role in diversifying multi-asset portfolios. Chapter 11 reviewed the alternative ways of investing in property. This chapter examines whether investors should increase their range of investments further by considering international property investments. Intuitively, such a strategy is appealing as country-specific risk should be diversified away. Also, in countries where the commercial property market is of limited size, such a strategy offers the possibility for institutions with substantial capital to invest in property.
