ABSTRACT

Talbot's letters are written from a hospital ship at Gallipoli, where he had taken part in the ill-fated attempts to seize the Dardanelles, re-supply Russia, and take Turkey out of the war. The landings on 25 April 1915 were fiercely resisted and before the troops were finally evacuated in December there had been 252,000 Allied casualties through illness and disease as well as combat.
