ABSTRACT
The following short survey of women’s work from the Industrial Revolution to the Second World War can scarcely be complete or adequate. However, it is important to indicate the range of work done by women outside the home, to note changes which took place over time and to be aware of some of the detailed work which has already been published on certain women’s jobs. My essentially practical aim is to enable researchers to rediscover the work done by women in their own localities in the past.
